Customer Service - how to get it right as a trades person

Friday, August 07, 2015

It’s a common tale. You’ve hired Bob the plumber to fix a problem with your sink, and he eventually arrives 2 hours late. Then, after taking longer than the quoted time to fix the problem, you discover that it’s not fixed at all… and he’s left several cigarette butts on the front lawn. We feel your pain.

Customer Service Done Right

But not all tradespeople are like this. In fact, at See Thru Cleaning we are making it our mission to change this stereotype and completely reverse it the other way around.

Let’s take a look at some of the elements of excellent customer service that we consider the most important:

Friendliness and Positivity

This relates to life in general. When we project positive feelings onto other people, it makes them feel better about themselves. On the other hand, when we react negatively to situations or use words with negative connotations, they’re likely to have the opposite impact.

It is important to always be as positive as possible when dealing with any situation. Not only does this mean you retain a cool, calm and collected temperament – it also allows you to cope with just about any problem that arises. Likewise when we are offering a service, customers are more likely to respond (and hire you again) if they remember you as a beaming ray of sunlight!

When one party wants one thing, and the other wants another, communication is a vital way of facilitating this transaction. When you are clear about what you want, it makes it easier for the other party to provide it in the easiest and fastest way possible.

When running a business, communication is vital. It is often the difference in how successful that business is. Whether it’s communication between employees, or discussions with clients, being clear and concise is key to achieving business outcomes.

These include things like honesty, integrity and attitude. As we grow from children into adults, we are taught about values and they change over time. For example, one of the most notable values is in the phrase: “treat others how you wish to be treated”.

If your organisation has a set of values, chances are you are going to foster mutually beneficial business relationships that stand the test of time. At See Thru Cleaning, we believe in the power of transparency and are well aware of the importance of communication at all levels – from the initial conversation we have with a client – right up until the invoice is processed and beyond.

We’re a window cleaning company in Sydney looking to make waves in the trades industry – and we’re already doing this. We put our clients first and are always on time, every time. But more importantly, the quality of our work is held in high regard with all of our happy customers.
